Early Learning

Kindergarten to Year 2 Overview – Early Learning

Early Childhood Education comprises classes from kindergarten through to Year Two. At Bullsbrook College we offer an engaging and innovative education aimed at developing the intellectual, social, physical and emotional development of each child. We are committed to the wellbeing and care of the individual in a safe, supportive environment where excellence is encouraged and risk taking pursued. The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), the Western Australian Kindergarten Curriculum guidelines and the Western Australian Curriculum underpin all our programs.

We recognise the early years as being critically important in terms of building valuable foundations for future learning. We place an emphasis on social emotional development. By explicit teaching, modelling and providing meaningful experiences, students are equipped with the skills to understand their emotions and interact successfully with others.

We place a strong focus on the explicit and intentional teaching of strong foundational literacy and numeracy skills. We inspire our students to become strong, capable learners, who are actively involved within their learning and never stop asking questions.

We recognise that play is essential for early learning and is best supported by meaningful interactions with educators. Play provides a context for learning through which children organise and make sense of their social worlds as they engage actively with people, objects and representations.

Fostering strong partnerships with parents is integral in supporting the learning of children which also builds agency for each child as they begin their journey in education.
